Now that Americans can breathe a collective *sigh* after a bruising campaign, the real work should begin. My hope is that we start today to shape our future country, which must include:

> An end to unnecessary, partisan vitriol that divides Americans;
...with the hope that a vision emerges allowing the United States to regain its global leadership position

> A departure from "it's the base, stupid" politics that excludes 50% of the national electorate;
...with the notion that whomever we select as Commander in Chief in '08 will make the best attempt to speak to all of us

> An emphasis on diplomacy and communication (read: ditch John Bolton);
...with no attempt to sabotage that process with a subverted prejudice against high-minded, communication-forward foreign policy

> A rejection of politics grafted with, bowing to or guided by any one religious group;
...with the purpose of staying true to the founders’ intent of government separation

I want to be proud of this country again, and perhaps this power shift in Washington will help more of us get there together.
